Laser-scanning confocal fluorescence microscopy has become a standard tool in the observation of biological processes at the sub-cellular level. Amsterdam-based startup Confocal.nl has developed and commercialized the technique of re-scan confocal microscopy (RCM), which can provide super-resolution as well as high-speed confocal imaging at low illumination powers, making it highly suitable for live-cell imaging.
