Former GRK2642 PhD student succeeds in obtaining a “IQST Blue Sky” Grant. Dr. Philipp Karl, who is working on plasmonic single photon detectors, gets the chance as a junior group leader to realize his vision of a pixellated single photon detector in the near- and mid-infrared region, using the plasmonic perfect absorber technology for Nb and NbN nanowire meander arrays that he developed in his PhD thesis.
He is working at the 4th Physics Institute and has collaborations with Prof. Norbert Frühauf and Prof. Jens Anders in the Electrical Engineering department.
He is benefitting from their know-how on how to make large-area pixellated multilayered microelectronics and on how to build cryogenic high-speed electronic amplifier circuits.
We thank IQST for this great opportunity for our former GRK student and for this investment into future quantum technology, bridging the gap between physics and engineering.”
