Precision 3D printing of microscale optics poised to reduce the size and cost of lasers used for a variety of applications

Press Release OPTICA

For the first time, researchers have shown that 3D-printed polymer-based micro-optics can withstand the heat and power levels that occur inside a laser. The advance enables inexpensive compact and stable laser sources that would be useful in a variety of applications, including the lidar systems used for autonomous vehicle.

PhD student Paul Ruchka, member of the GRK2642, and his PI Prof. Harald Giessen have been part of the research team.
